RIT opens Liberty D2 play with 31–0 shutout of UAlbany
The Tigers kept a clean sheet in the conference opener, and the first on-campus home match is next.
RIT started the Liberty Rugby Conference Men’s D2 season with a 31–0 win over the University at Albany. The defense didn’t concede a point all match.
It’s a big result for a program that has rebuilt over the last few seasons. Not long ago the club was playing friendlies on a borrowed pitch. Now it’s competing in a full conference schedule and, for the first time in years, playing its home matches on campus.
What went right
- Defense: a full 80 minutes without conceding.
- Rugby IQ: players spent the summer playing club rugby, and it showed in decision-making.
- New attacking structure: the revised offensive systems from preseason produced points.
Up next: the first home match on campus
The Tigers host Marist, a longtime rival and former conference champion, in RIT’s first on-campus home match. Bring friends, bring noise, and check the standings page for kickoff details.
